Coming from Media DJ? MindSpiral is its new name. Your settings, saved Looks and folders carry straight over. On Windows, installing MindSpiral replaces Media DJ; on a Mac, once MindSpiral is running you can move the old Media DJ app to the Trash.

Opening it the first time

One bit of friction, once.

MindSpiral isn’t yet signed with an Apple or Microsoft developer certificate, so your computer asks you to confirm it the first time.

On a Mac

  1. Open the downloaded disk image and drag MindSpiral into Applications.
  2. Open MindSpiral. When macOS says it can’t check the app, choose Done.
  3. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down, and choose Open Anyway beside MindSpiral. From then on it opens normally.

On macOS 14 or earlier you can instead hold Control, click MindSpiral in Applications, and choose Open.

On Windows

  1. Run the downloaded installer.
  2. If “Windows protected your PC” appears, choose More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Choose where to install it. MindSpiral adds itself to the Start menu and the desktop.

Staying up to date

New versions come to you.

Windows

MindSpiral downloads new versions quietly in the background and installs them the next time you quit. It never restarts on its own — not in the middle of a session, not ever.

Mac

MindSpiral tells you when a new version is out and brings you straight here to download it. You can also choose Help › Check for Updates… at any time.

Using Media DJ 1.6.4 or earlier? Those versions can’t check for updates. Download MindSpiral once, and it takes care of the rest.

For VR

Then put it on your face.

A headset is where this stops being a screen and starts being a room. Open MindSpiral on your computer, put a Meta Quest on the same Wi-Fi, and choose Share › Put MindSpiral on a headset… — the computer keeps the files and goes dark while you’re under.

Not a Quest? Any headset whose own browser does WebXR can open the same address and press Enter VR — Pico, VIVE, Android XR and Apple Vision Pro included, in preview: built for them, not yet tried on each one.
